Why should you hire an attorney?
As we explained under About the Law, your case will be governed by common and legislative law and by administrative rules. Since these jurisdictions and rules often overlap and change frequently, they are generally very complicated. Furthermore, the insurance companies, hospitals and defendants will have lawyers on their side who spend all their working lives defending such cases. You will be truly disadvantaged without someone on your side who is experienced and knowledgeable with the law and who will work hard for your rights.

Over the years, we have earned a reputation for fighting hard for our clients. Company lawyers and doctors, insurance companies, attorneys and judges know that we will not back down.

What should you expect from your attorney?
We will listen to you. We will take note of your concerns and carefully review your situation. We can often let you know within the same day whether or not we can take your case. If we do take your case, we will provide full information about what to expect. Fees are always a concern; rest assured that we only recover our fees and expenses from awards that we collect.

Cases often revolve around distinguishing between injuries that were directly caused by the accident, and injuries that are unrelated. So your medical history is relevant, and may be discussed during the case. Therefore, we will ask you about your medical and personal history.

While most cases are settled before they go to trial, we will fully prepare ourselves with a strong case and a good story so that the other side knows that we are willing and able to fight for you in court. When they realize this, they may negotiate and settle before trial.

Even if the case is settled, the preparation and negotiation of a case take time and resources. Depending on the type of case, it may take months, or even years. You can expect that throughout the process we will keep you informed.

Because cases are won and lost over the facts and preparation, many costs arise along the way. We collect, organize and analyze many records. Often we hire experts to provide opinions that are specific to your case. Examples include doctors, nurses, and engineers. These costs often run in the thousands. You don’t pay until we settle the case for you. All the preparation expenses are simply deducted from the settlement. We also earn a reasonable and customary fee from the settlement. Fee and expense arrangements will be discussed with you and explained in a letter that we will ask you to sign.
